CHAPLAINCY MINISTRIES

• Campus - ministry to faculty and students of Adventist or public colleges and universities

• Community - ministry to law enforcement agencies, fire, search and rescue departments, legislatures, and in response to disaster victims

• Corrections - ministry to inmates and prison staff

• Health Care - ministry to medical care-providers and patients in Adventist, private and public facilities

• Military - ministry to military-related personnel during peace and war

• Work Place - ministry to management and workers in business, corporations, industry and sports

REQUIREMENTS FOR OBTAINING ECCLESIASTICAL ENDORSEMENT

Adventist Campus Chaplain: Clergy whose primary responsibility is to serve a campus full-time as a chaplain, rather than as a church pastor or Bible teacher:

• Membership - Member in regular standing of the campus Seventh-day Adventist Church on which the chaplain would serve

• Education - A Master of Arts degree in chaplaincy, education or religion /
theology related study from a Seventh-day Adventist school accredited to ACM standards

• Credentials - Regular standing as a minister in the Seventh-day Adventist
Church with a current ministerial credential issued by a conference

• Experience - At least two years of satisfactory pastoral experience

Public Campus Chaplain: Clergy who serve faculty and students of all faiths or no faith on a secular college or university campus. They may serve as an advisor / mentor / pastor for Adventist students and be the pastor for a Collective Protestant congregation

• Education - A Master of Arts degree in chaplaincy, education or religion /
theology related study from a Seventh-day Adventist school accredited to ACM standards
• Credentials - Regular standing as a minister in the Seventh-day Adventist
Church with a current ministerial credential issued by a conference

• Experience - At least two years of satisfactory pastoral experience

• Public Requirements - Meet all other requirements of public law and the
educational institution for chaplains

Community Chaplain: Clergy who serve as chaplains in organized community programs such as disaster response, fire and rescue, law enforcement and legislatures, usually as an extension of their pastoral responsibilities and often in an unpaid status as a volunteer chaplain

• Education - A Master of Arts degree in chaplaincy, or religion / theology
related study from a Seventh-day Adventist school accredited to ACM standards

• Credentials - Regular standing as a minister in the Seventh-day Adventist Church with a current ministerial credential issued by a conference

• Experience - At least two years of satisfactory pastoral experience

• Special Requirements - Prescribed certification and/or specialized training that
meets all the requirements of the organization for chaplains

Correctional Chaplain: Clergy who are employed by the state to serve the correctional institution full-time as a chaplain

• Education - A Master of Arts degree in chaplaincy, or religion / theology
related study from a Seventh-day Adventist school accredited to ACM standards

• Credentials - Regular standing as a minister in the Seventh-day Adventist Church with a current ministerial credential issued by a conference

• Experience - At least two years of satisfactory pastoral experience

• Public Requirements - Meet all other requirements of public law and the
correctional institution for chaplains

Health Care Chaplain: Clergy who are employed to serve healthcare facilities full-time as a chaplain

• Education - A Master of Arts degree in chaplaincy or religion / theology related study from a Seventh-day Adventist school accredited to ACM standards, and at least two units of Clinical Pastoral Education taken in an ACM accredited or recognized program

• Credentials - Regular standing as a minister in the Seventh-day Adventist
Church with a current ministerial credential issued by a conference

• Experience - At least two years of satisfactory pastoral experience

• Professional Requirements - Meet all other professional requirements of the
health care system or facility for chaplains

Military Chaplain: Clergy who are employed full-time by the government to serve in the armed forces (air force, army or navy) of their nation as a chaplain

• Education - A Master of Arts degree in chaplaincy or religion / theology
related study from a Seventh-day Adventist school accredited to ACM standards

• Credentials - Regular standing as a minister in the Seventh-day Adventist Church with a current ministerial credential issued by a conference

• Experience - At least two years of satisfactory pastoral experience

• Legal Requirements - Meet all other requirements of public law and the
military services for chaplains

Work Place Chaplain: Clergy who are contracted or employed by a business, corporation or industry to serve as a chaplain in the work place

• Education - A Master of Arts degree in chaplaincy or religion / theology
related study from a Seventh-day Adventist school that is accredited to ACM standards

• Credentials - Regular standing as a minister in the Seventh-day Adventist Church with a current ministerial credential as defined above

• Experience - At least two years of satisfactory pastoral experience

• Other Requirements - Meet all other requirements of public law and the
contract
